Excel Percentage Formula

Excel stores percentages as decimals: 25% is 0.25. Calculate the decimal, then apply the Percent number format.

Percent of total

=B2/SUM($B$2:$B$6)

Percent change

=(New-Old)/Old
=(C2-B2)/B2

A positive result is an increase and a negative one is a decrease.

Increase or decrease by a percent

=B2*(1+15%)
=B2*(1-15%)

Practice

The checker compares the underlying value, so 0.2133 and 21.33% are the same answer.
