Excel Test for Data Analysts
10 questions · 15 minutes · One real orders dataset
Analyst screens hand you a table and ask business questions about it. This test does the same: an orders sheet with region, channel, revenue and cost, and ten tasks that get harder as you go. Type a formula in column J and press Enter.

What the analyst test covers
- Conditional aggregation: COUNTIFS, SUMIFS, AVERAGEIFS and MAXIFS with two conditions.
- Business ratios: share of total revenue and overall profit margin.
- Lookups: XLOOKUP, INDEX MATCH on the largest value, and IFERROR for missing records.
- Logic: flagging rows with IF and AND.
Read the data analyst Excel test guide for what employers look for, or brush up with SUMIFS practice and INDEX MATCH.
Frequently asked questions
What does this data analyst Excel test cover?
Ten tasks on one orders table: COUNTIFS, SUMIFS, AVERAGEIFS and MAXIFS, percent of total, profit margin, XLOOKUP, INDEX MATCH, IFERROR and IF with AND. These are the skills analyst screens test most.
Is it harder than the general practice test?
Yes. It assumes you know SUM, COUNTIF and basic lookups, and asks you to combine conditions, calculate ratios and handle missing values.
Can I use XLOOKUP or SUMPRODUCT?
Yes. Any formula that returns the right value counts, so XLOOKUP, VLOOKUP, INDEX MATCH or SUMPRODUCT all work where they fit. Typed-in numbers don't.
What should I do after the test?
Check the skill breakdown on the results screen, practise the guides it points to, then use Retake my missed questions until you can finish inside 15 minutes.
